Apple Watch Series 5

Given the unprecedented success of the Apple Watch, it’s not exactly surprising to see the company keep its popular smart wearable nicely updated to keep its huge lead over the competition. This year, we saw the release of a bundle of new iOS tech, and Apple also unveiled the fifth iteration of the Apple Watch at its annual end-of-summer launch event in September.

Although the new iPhone 11 was the star of that Apple event, smartwatch fans were understandably excited to see the awesome new Apple Watch Series 5 — even if it’s only because the release of new tech means price cuts for last-generation models like the Series 3 and Series 4 (which are still great). If you have to have the latest and greatest, however, then the Series 5 is the Apple Watch for you. And although it’s new, you can still find some deals if you hunt around for them, especially now with Black Friday and the holidays fast approaching:

The third generation Apple Watch is still available for purchase with plenty of sweet deals to be found, and the internet is always buzzing about the latest tech. Our own in-house Apple enthusiasts have already spent plenty of time with the Apple Watch Series 4 and have lots of great things to say about it, but here’s a quick run-down to get you up to speed:

The Apple Watch Series 4 runs on WatchOS 5, which includes improved health-tracking options, a walkie-talkie feature, and a podcast app. Both the 44mm and 40mm Apple Watch Series 4 also feature an improved screen resolution over the Series 3, and the fourth-gen wearable runs on an upgraded Apple S4 processor. The Apple Watch 4 is available for purchase now from most online tech retailers, so if you see a Series 4 in your future, then these sales (and the recent release of the new Series 5) make it a solid time to buy.

Apple Watch Series 3

Cheap Apple Watch Series 1

The most affordable version of the iOS watch (that you can still buy new, that is) is the Apple Watch Series 3, which just so happens to pair very nicely with the iPhone X. Released in 2017 by Apple, the third-generation Apple Watch 3 utilizes the newer S3 chip, which is 70% faster than the S2 and S1P found in earlier models. The new Apple Watch Series 3 GPS system also works great, and it also features a built-in barometric altimeter that adds to the already extensive suite of Apple Watch activity-tracking functions, and everything is supported by a great battery life. With a heart rate monitor and a whole host of different app options, this watch also doubles as an excellent fitness-tracking device — comparable to any Fitbit wearable.

Along with the many different cases and band and strap options, the Series 3 is available in two models: the standard watch version and one which is capable of cellular LTE connectivity. This effectively lets you turn your smartwatch into a full-on mini smartphone or iPhone, allowing you to send and receive calls and texts right from your wrist with no connected iPhone required. The cellular watch model comes with a boosted 16GB of storage as well. Not to mention there’s a whole host of Apple Watch Sport bands from Nike, stylish straps, and accessories out there that you won’t find at any Apple Store, like the Fog Sport Band, Pink Sand Sport Band, Sport Loop Band, and more.

It used to start at the price of $329 for the non-LTE model and at the price of $399 for the LTE-equipped cellular version, but you can find the Apple Watch Series 3 for much cheaper nowadays, making it the ultimate iOS smartwatch for budget-minded Apple fans. They come in Space Gray, Rose Gold, and White, but oftentimes the cheap options only come in one color.

Apple Watch Series 2

Apple Watch Sale

The Apple Watch series received an update in 2016 when the Series 1 and Series 2 were launched alongside each other, with the Series 2 boasting a few refinements and upgrades over its sibling. Most notably, this Apple Watch edition adds built-in GPS functionality (great for everything from activity tracking to navigation) and two new case options – stainless steel or ceramic, with the steel case featuring a sapphire crystal face. Though the GPS is a helpful tool, the Apple Watch Series 2 also comes with a decent battery life and a nicely updated system firmware.

As far as differences go between the two, the OLED screen display on the Series 2 is twice as bright as that on the Series 1 watch, and the case is waterproof up to 50 meters which makes it a better option for certain outdoor and fitness-tracking activities than the water-resistant (but not waterproof) Series 1 watch. There are also a wide variety of leather band and sport band options available for both models if you don’t like the classic strap. On the inside, the Apple Watch Series 2 runs on an S2 computer chip, a dual-core processor with snappy performance similar to the S1P. And with an excellent screen nestled within a Space Gray aluminum case, you can browse apps and navigate messages effortlessly.

The Series 2 is a great “middle option” between the entry-level Series 1 and newer Series 3, especially if you want a GPS tracker and a brighter display, so if you’ve got an Apple discount on your mind then be sure to take advantage of what these third-party sellers like Amazon have to offer:

Apple Watch Series 1

Although it doesn’t feature all of the enhancements of later models, the Apple Watch Series 1 is still a solid watch with a lot of wireless functionality. Somewhat confusingly, the Apple Watch Series 1 is actually the second-generation refresh of the 2015 original Apple Watch, meaning it’s technically the second iteration in the series. It’s almost identical to the original except that it boasts the newer S1P chip under the hood, making it roughly 50% faster than the older S1. This cheaper Apple Watch may not be the newest model, but it still pairs very nicely with that iPhone X and has a pretty decent battery life for a WatchOS device.

Like all Apple Watch models, the Series 1 runs on the intuitive WatchOS firmware (an iOS derivative purpose-built for the smaller Retina touch display). It comes with either a 38mm or 42mm aluminum case and is compatible with a myriad of different wrist straps for sale — such as the black sport band, white sport band, and gold aluminum strap. There are also customizable watch faces, a stainless steel case for protection, and a ton of different Apple Watch apps to choose from. It’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capable for easy syncing to your other iOS devices, and features 8GB of onboard storage and 512MB of RAM. Given that it’s older tech in 2019, you can score one for fairly cheap with a discount on what might be the most affordable option in the Apple Watch series:
