What’s new on Amazon Prime Video and what’s leaving in July 2019

Each month, Amazon adds a healthy dose of fresh content, providing viewers with a significant number of new and interesting things to watch. With so much new stuff, it can be hard to know what to watch without doing extensive research. There’s no need to fear, streaming enthusiasts and Amazon Fire TV owners. If you’re looking for the best of what’s new on Amazon Prime Video in July, we’re here to help.

What happens when superheroes abuse their powers? Who polices people who can shoot lasers from their eyes and toss bulldozers like they’re baseballs? That’s the question at the heart of Amazon’s new original series The Boys, based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series of the same name. The gritty, irreverent show follows the titular group of agents tasked with making sure the world’s super-powered “heroes” don’t go too far, and they’re willing to take any measure to rein them in, no matter how brutal. The cast is led by Karl Urban, who plays the group’s leader, Billy Butcher, with Jack Quaid playing the team’s latest recruit, “Wee Hughie” Campbell.

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne lead Carnival Row, a new, original series set in a Victorian fantasy world where magical creatures live alongside humans. When a human detective and a faerie violate the restrictions on how mythological beings mingle with humans, it threatens the peace of their world — until a string of murders completely destroys the city’s peace.

There are also plenty of other new and noteworthy movies and television series not produced in-house that will be available to Amazon Prime subscribers in July. Among the highlights are slapstick comedy Dumb and Dumber, the recent Hellboy franchise reboot, and five of the late installments of the Star Trek film franchise, including 1986’s Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Below, you’ll find the full list of everything that’s new on Amazon Prime Video in both June and July, with our recommended films and shows in boldface. If you’re still not sure what to watch, we have a list of the best movies streaming on Amazon, as well as a list of the best TV shows streaming on Amazon, to help you make an informed choice.
