This year’s Prime Day, Amazon’s big Black Friday-style blowout event, came and went this month. It was another success, with the retailer reporting massive sales figures that once again broke records set by the previous sale. Prime Day is one of the best times of the year to score great deals on all kinds of tech, including the likes of 4K TVs, gaming consoles, smartphones, and other big-ticket electronics, and the 2019 sale also had some juicy discounts on brand-name smartwatches like the Apple Watch.
Although the Apple Watch was arguably the highlight of the sale, the 2019 Prime Day deals on smartwatches spanned a nice range of different models. That means that whether you’re an Apple fan or prefer something with Google’s Wear OS, there was almost certainly something for your needs to be found during Amazon’s big sale — and we can expect similar deals for Prime Day 2020.
What were the best smartwatch deals on Prime Day?
There was a pretty wide range of smartwatch deals going for Amazon Prime Day 2019, from the venerable Apple Watch to wearables that are more purpose-built to work with Android devices. We’ve seen some great new smartwatches from the likes of Apple, Samsung, LG, Fossil, and TicWatch released in 2018, and recent models from many of these big brands saw deep discounts during the big sale.
Shoppers were also able to enjoy some great smartwatch deals both before and after Prime Day, not just on Amazon but from other retailers who are increasingly vying for a share of the sale-hungry shoppers. A handful of the best picks include deals on the new Apple Watch Series 4, Samsung Galaxy Watch, and fourth-generation Fossil Venture, as well as some nice discounts on full-featured fitness smartwatches like the Fitbit Versa.
What to expect from Amazon Prime Day 2020?
Prime Day is a huge annual sale that’s intended to compete with other yearly events like Black Friday weekend. For blowouts like this, the best deals to look for are for things that don’t often get discounted too often — namely current-generation models and high-end devices. For smartwatches, that would include models like the Apple Watch Series 4 as well as older units like the Series 3, plus beefier smartwatch-like fitness trackers such as the Fitbit Versa rather than the simpler activity tracker bands that are cheaper and discounted more frequently.
What that means for Prime Day 2020 is that you can expect some rare deals on newer smartwatches, but based on what was offered this year, we’ll also likely see deals on 2018 devices like the Apple Watch Series 4 (since last-generation units like the Series 3 have been on sale a lot lately), while Android users should keep their eyes peeled for Wear OS– and Tizen-based wearables from brands like Fossil and Samsung. If we see some updated devices released in late 2019 when brands like Apple like to roll out their latest hardware, then Prime Day 2020 could also be the first time we can expect to see deals on this newer stuff.
